Did you ever wonder what breed of dog you owned?  Well now the wondering can be over!  The SPCA is selling the Insights Dog DNA test with a 185+ breeed database.  It is easy as 1-2-3.  You collect a sample from inside your dog's cheek with the swabs that are included in the kit.  Mail the swabs in the postage-paid envelope, and the results are e-mailed to you within three weeks of receipt at the labratory.  How cool is that?  The kits may be purchased at the shelter for $64 plus tax.

Settle that argument once and for all.  Find out what breeds make up the four legged love of your life.  Or buy the kit as a unique gift.

FAIRFIELD ON THE STRIP - SPCA COMMUNITY DAY

The Fairfield Auto Group's Fairfield on the Strir Pre-Owned Auto Mall held a community day event to benefit the Lycoming County SPCA. on November 5, 2011 at the East Third Street Location of the Fairfield Auto Group.

The SPCA coordinated its efforts with the Business Class Project of the Alpha Omega student group of Dr. Neil Boyd’s Business Management Class at Lycoming College.

The day's events included a Chinese Auction, with items donated from various local businesses and individuals, kids activities, carnival-stylle activities, a benefit car wash, food, a display by the Loyalsock Fire Company, minature ponies, entertainment by Trooper, vendor displays and adoptable animals from the SPCA.

As part of the event, Fairfield on the Strip contributed a pre-owned vehicle to be part of a raffle drawing.  Second and third place winners of the raffle were also given the opportunity to grab cash and prizes from Fairfield's Cash Machine.

.

The event raised over $3,100.00 to benefit the homeless and abused animals the SPCA serves.

A special thank you to Mr. Bob Houston, General Manager of Fairfield on the Strip and the student members of the Alpha Omega Consulting Group of Lycoming College for coordinating this event.

Grace Sanders
Grace came to the SPCA as a stray. Not only was she extremely thin, but she was missing most of her fur; loaded with fleas; had a severe skin problem with red itchy and inflamed skin; and a huge, infected wound on her side. She was so frightened she cowered and growled whenever anyone approached her. So Vickie Stryker wrote about her on her blog, and Ann Sanders read about her.
Ann asked if she could visit and was quickly given the green light. Ann described her meeting as follows:  “When I first saw Grace she looked so horrible I gasped; second reaction was to cry.  It took 4 or 5 visits, lots of hot dogs for Grace to stop growling. Soon after that I discovered, amazingly, that she had a sweet and gentle disposition and if my boys (dog and human) would except her, I would love her (already did) and help her blossom.  Grace fits right in at her new forever home and currently is taking an obedience class for manners and socialization.....she continues to by my "Amazing Grace."
With medication, good food, medicated baths twice a week, and lots of love, Grace has become a beautiful German Shepherd. You would never guess that she is the same dog in the picture.
  Scooby Foster
Scooby arrived at the SPCA as a stray; very thin, and by all appearance, very old. Joey Foster saw Scooby when an SPCA employee was taking the little Schnauzer into the veterinarian’s office to be examined. His test results revealed that he was most likely in renal failure. This did not deter Joey. He went to the SPCA with his Schnauzer, Buddy, to meet Scooby. Despite his grave diagnosis, Joey still wanted to adopt Scooby to love him for the remainder of his life.
Joey reports that Scooby will not leave his side and is a wonderful companion. Buddy and Scooby are great friends. He cannot believe how well Scooby is doing. Joey’s love, affection, and good care of kept Scooby going. He’s even gained a few pounds!
 Lizzie Meyer
Lizzie was found by a Williamsport Police Officer walking down Fourth Street. SPCA staff was shocked by her emaciated condition. Despite being so thin, her demeanor was very sweet and loving. She soon became a staff favorite. When Anne Meyer came to the SPCA looking for a companion, she almost left empty handed. Vickie Stryker talked her into visiting with Lizzie and it did not take long for Anne to fall in love. As a matter of fact, the day Anne was invited to bring Lizzie to Sweet Temptations, the first thing she said after ‘hello’, was “I’m sitting here looking at my wonderful dog. I just love her.” Anne went on to report that Lizzie gained weight and is very happy and healthy.
 Rollei McMonigle
Shawn McMonigle has been taking professional portraits of SPCA dogs for posting on the SPCA’s website. He falls in love every time he is at the shelter. But in June he fell hard. His wife Krista agreed and they adopted the little Pit Bull/Doberman Puppy and he was named after Shawn’s favorite camera-a Rolleiflex film camera.
It is unfortunate that Pit Bulls have a bad reputation because they can be wonderful family pets. Just ask Shawn, Krista, and his children Pavel and Sasha; they have two Pit Bull mixes that are wonderful family dogs. Shawn describes Rollei as a big lovey. He thinks he is part kitty cat as he weaves around his owner’s ankles. Rollei also loves to play and insists on getting in on the action when one of the other family dogs tries to play with a family member. He has been a great addition to the McMonigle clan and is very much loved.
 Molly Hubler
Molly Hubler was removed from a neglectful situation. She was flea infested and had, what appeared to be, on open wound on her private parts. She was immediately taken to the veterinarian and it was discovered that she was a hermaphrodite! She had both male and female parts. The male part was open, red, inflamed and non-functioning. Her situation was corrected surgically and Molly became a female.
Molly enjoys her family time with the Hubler's.  Whether it is spending an evening watching Animal Planet with Bryan and Erica, an afternoon jumping on the trampoline with Jasmine, or wrestling with her brother, Gunner, you can always see her enjoyment.  She has also made quite the impact on the neighborhood, when neighbors see her they are always sure to tell her hello and give a pat on the head.  She has even made an appearance in parades!
 Oliver Sanguedolce
Oliver had a rough start in life. He was left outside in the cold with two other dogs. He was flea infested and had damage to his left eye. Because his owner failed to provide necessary care for the dogs, they were removed and brought to the shelter. Oliver was adopted twice before and brought back to the shelter due to a divorce, then behavior issues.
Pat fell in love with the little guy and decided to adopt him. She could not believe how well he fit in to his new home. She said it was as if he belonged with them. Oliver gets along with everyone and everyone loves him.   The little Chihuahua can usually be found curled up next to their Rottweiler and also enjoys the company of a Chinese Crested and a Mastiff..
A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THE TENTH ANNUAL SWEET TEMPTATIONS EVENT A HUGE SUCCESS!
